Pune: Senior Police Officers In Wakad, Hinjawadi Areas Now On Duty On Weekends As Well

Wakad/Hinjawadi, 29th July 2022: It has been decided to keep senior police officers on duty even on Sundays in view of the increasing crowd in hotels, pubs and streets to enjoy the weekend. Hence, to control the crowd, the senior inspector of Wakad, Hinjawadi and Shirgaon police stations have been appointed on duty on weekends and a weekday for the officers is scheduled to be different.

Most of the young men and women working in the IT Park in Hinjawadi live in Pimple Saudagar, Wakad, Rahatani, and Tathawade. Citizens from most parts of the city go to hotels in the Hinjawadi and Wakad areas for weekends.

Similarly, the road from Dehu Road to Somatane Phata has a level road through Shirgaon behind Hinjawadi IT Park. Also, the Pune-Mumbai Expressway passing through the jurisdiction of the Commissionerate and the Kusgaon Dam are under the jurisdiction of the Shirgaon Police, and the number of people who come to visit this area in the Maval Belt is more on weekends.

Therefore, in case of traffic jams, disputes between tourists, accidents, theft or any other incident, the senior inspector must be present at the police station on Sunday. Therefore, it was decided to change the leave of three senior inspectors of the concerned police station.

A youth died after jumping from the second floor after a scuffle at a bar in the Wakad area. His friends were beaten up by the hotel’s owner and other staff. The incident took place on Sunday in this locality, while in Thergaon (Wakad police station) an eight-year-old boy was subjected to sexual abuse on Sunday. Both these major incidents in the last fifteen days took place on Sunday, while the metro work is currently underway in Hinjawadi, and traffic jams have become a matter of routine.

In most of the companies in Hinjawadi, ‘work from home is still going on, and the employees of a few companies are coming to the office for work. But the hotel, and pub here are seeing an increase in the number of visitors from all over the city on weekends. The Pune-Bangalore highway passes through the three police station limits of Wakad-Hinjawadi-Shirgaon under Pimpri Chinchwad police commissionerate. Therefore, the staff of the police station have to go to help the traffic police to solve the jams.

In the background of all this, the decision was taken at the administrative level to change the leave of the senior officers directly. Among the officers whose leave was changed, were Dr Vivek Muglikar (Hinjawadi Police Station), Satyavan Mane (Wakad Police Station) and Vanita Dhumal (Shirgaon Police Station). These three officers have been given leave on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday respectively.

As a matter of fact, when a major incident takes place, the in-charge (Senior Inspector) of the police station has to come to work despite being on leave. Due to VVIP visits, elections, festivals, and agitations, the weekly leave of police personnel officers are often cancelled.

At the same time, the issue of police working hours has always been a matter of controversy. Going forward, it was decided to change the weekly leave of senior officers for better services to the citizens.

This decision has been taken so that citizens do not face any kind of trouble on Sunday, no untoward incident takes place in the crowd if any crime is committed in the crowd and traffic jam, it should be dealt with properly at the police station level,” said Satish Mane, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Administration, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police.

-Hinjewadi- Three inspectors, 14 officers, 79 employees (Crimes registered on 8 Sundays in last two months – 17)

-Wakad 3 inspectors, 13 officers, 115 employees (6 cases registered on 8 Sundays in the last two months)

-Shirgaon 1 inspector, 5 officers, 30 employees (2 Crimes registered on 8 Sundays in last two months)
