Pune: Serum Institute Defrauded Of Rs 1 Crore; Fake Messages Came From CEO Adar Poonawalla’s WhatsApp Number

Pune, 10th September 2022: It has come to light that Serum Institute Pvt Ltd CEO was extorted Rs one Crore one Lakh by Adar Poonawalla’s mobile number by sending fake WhatsApp messages asking to send money to various accounts.

In this regard, a case has been registered under IPC sections 419, 420, and 34, including IT Act 66 C and D at Bund garden police station. The incident took place online between September 7 and September 8. In this regard, Sagar Kittur has filed a complaint.

 

According to the information given by the police, Kittur works as a finance manager at Serum Institute. Adar Poonawalla is the CEO while Satish Deshpande is the director.

 

Deshpande received a WhatsApp message from Poonawalla’s mobile number in which some bank account numbers were mentioned. It was asked to send money to this number immediately. Deshpande asked Sagar Kittur, the finance manager, to send the money to the particular number.

Accordingly, Kittur remitted Rs 1 Crore 1 lakh 1 thousand and 554 Rs to various accounts. After a discussion in the company in this regard, it came to light that Adar Poonawalla had not sent any such message.

 

The organization was found to have been scammed online. In this regard, a complaint has been lodged with Bundagarden police and a case has been registered.
