Pune, 30th November 2024: Senior NCP leader Sharad Pawar has emphasized the need to address issues in the water, forest, and land sectors, asserting that solutions in these areas could resolve several national challenges. Speaking at the inauguration of the two-day national convention of the Bharatiya Jain Sanghatana, Pawar lauded the Jain community for its history of stepping forward to tackle crises in the country.
“When the nation faces challenges, the Jain community has consistently taken the initiative to provide solutions. The Bharatiya Jain Sanghatana has been at the forefront of this work, and I hope it will continue to contribute to these critical sectors,” Pawar stated.
Pawar praised the organization and its founder, Shantilal Mutha, for their extensive work over the past 40 years, particularly in education and social welfare. Reflecting on Mutha’s leadership, Pawar said, “During the Latur earthquake, Mutha provided shelter to orphaned children by bringing them to Pune. The organization also did exceptional work during the Gujarat earthquake, addressing issues like drinking water, food, animal fodder, and medicine.”
The convention was attended by Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation Muralidhar Mohol, Dr. Vijay Darda, President of Sakal Jain Samaj Sanghatana, and notable entrepreneurs and leaders, including Prakash Dhariwal, Ganpat Chaudhary, Vitthal Maniyar, JITO International President Vijay Bhandari, and others.
Pawar highlighted the Jain community’s significant contribution to the country’s economic growth, crediting their unity and collaborative efforts. “When everyone works together, monumental achievements are possible. The Jain community is a testament to this,” he added.
Mohol also commended the organization, emphasizing its extensive efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic in Pune. “The Jain community has always extended support in times of need, and we stand by you in all your future endeavors,” Mohol assured.
Shantilal Mutha elaborated on the organization’s current focus on resolving water issues across 10 districts, with plans to extend the initiative to 100 districts. “The Jain community has always been at the forefront during crises, whether it was building 368 schools in Gujarat after the earthquake or addressing water scarcity today,” he noted.
The event also witnessed a humorous exchange when the host praised Sharad Pawar’s youthful enthusiasm despite his age. Pawar quipped, “Who told you I’m 84?” eliciting laughter and applause from the audience.
The convention underscored the pivotal role of community-driven initiatives in addressing pressing national challenges and celebrated the Jain community’s unwavering commitment to social service.
