Pune: Shatrughan Kate Appointed BJP Pimpri-Chinchwad City President

Pimpri-Chinchwad, 13th May 2025: In a significant development for local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Politics, former corporator Shatrughan Kate has been appointed as the new city president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The announcement was made today by Maharashtra Minister and BJP State President Chandrashekhar Bawankule, fulfilling a promise made to Kate following recent internal party negotiations and the aftermath of the Chinchwad Assembly elections.
Kate, a three-time corporator and a known supporter of the late MLA Laxman Jagtap, had previously shown keen interest in contesting the Chinchwad Assembly Seat. During the last assembly elections, he rallied a group of discontented party office-bearers and openly opposed the party’s official candidate, Shankar Jagtap, even hinting at rebellion if his demands were not considered. To resolve the internal discord, senior party leaders, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Chandrashekhar Bawankule, intervened and assured Kate of a prominent organizational role, which has now materialized with his appointment as city president.
The race for the city president post saw several contenders, including Namdev Dhake, but the party leadership ultimately honored its commitment to Kate, aiming to consolidate support among former and dissatisfied corporators. Speaking after his appointment, Kate said, “State president Chandrashekhar Bawankule has placed his trust in me by giving me the responsibility of the city president’s position, and I will fulfil the role sincerely”.
