Pimpri Chinchwad, 21st August 2023: Shrirang Barne, the Shiv Sena MP representing Maval, has fervently called for the inclusion of seven adjoining villages—Hinjawadi, Maan, Marunji, Jambe, Nere, Sangwade, and Gahunje—into the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) area. These villages, located in proximity to the municipal limits, have been lacking in development, and Barne’s proposition aims to rectify this disparity.

Barne’s plea found resonance with the Chief Minister, who promptly directed the administrative machinery to formulate a proposal for this purpose. As a result, there is an optimistic anticipation that these villages will soon become an integral part of the municipality.

Among these villages, Hinjawadi, Marunji, Nere, Jambhe, Sagwande, and Gahunje are located near jurisdiction of the municipal limits. Over time, rapid urbanization has taken root in these regions, yet they grapple with inadequate essential amenities. A poignant example is Hinjawadi, renowned as an information and technology hub, which necessitates the betterment of its infrastructure. The area hosts a diverse population from across the country, magnifying the need for development.

The burgeoning populace, coupled with the complex demands of modern urban living, outpaces the capabilities of the local Gram Panchayat to cater to the citizens’ needs effectively. Consequently, the residents have been vociferously advocating for the integration of these villages into the municipal corporation, an issue addressed in the Municipal Assembly as far back as 2015. With escalating urbanization presenting challenges in terms of traffic, inadequate services, and increasing pollution of the Pavana river due to insufficient sewage treatment, the necessity to assimilate these seven villages into the PCMC has grown all the more paramount.

Particularly notable is the international-standard cricket stadium located in Gahunje. Yet, the inadequacy of sewage treatment infrastructure has led to the direct discharge of impure water into the riverbed, exacerbating the pollution problem in the region.

Advocating for the inclusion of these seven villages under the municipal ambit, Barne underscores the perspective of holistic development, equitable access to civic amenities, and the prevention of unauthorized construction.

In response, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has provided a positive assurance, expressing the intent to deliberate on this matter earnestly and reach a prompt decision.
