Swargate, 5th March 2025: Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena staged an aggressive protest at Swargate in Pune against Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi over his recent remarks. The protesters burned Azmi’s effigy and demanded that a sedition case be registered against him.

Azmi reportedly made statements praising Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, calling him a good administrator, which has sparked outrage in Maharashtra, the land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. In response, Shiv Sena party workers gathered at Swargate Chowk, chanting slogans and expressing strong opposition to Azmi’s remarks.

Speaking at the protest, Shiv Sena’s Pune city president Nana Bhangire said, “Abu Azmi’s statements are unacceptable. We demand that he be booked for sedition and suspended from the Legislative Assembly. We will also submit a representation to the Pune City Police Commissioner to register a case against him in Pune.”
