Pune Shivers at 7.9°C, Season’s Coldest Morning Recorded Today
Pune, 11th December 2025: The cold wave sweeping across Pune intensified on Thursday as the city recorded a minimum temperature of 7.9°C, the lowest of the season so far. This is the fourth straight day of dipping night temperatures across the region.
Seven other stations in the district also reported single-digit readings, highlighting the widespread impact of the ongoing chill.
Weather experts attribute the sharp drop to strong northerly winds coupled with moderate wind speeds, which have increased the cooling effect across Maharashtra. The prevailing La Niña conditions are further contributing to the sharper-than-usual fall in night temperatures across the state.
Baramati reported the district’s lowest minimum at 7.5°C on Thursday, while Lavale recorded the highest at 16.2°C.
In an unusual trend, Pune continues to remain colder than Mahabaleshwar. On Wednesday, the hill station registered a minimum of 11.2°C, significantly higher than Pune’s 8.4°C.
Relief, however, may be on the way. The IMD has indicated a gradual rise in temperatures in the coming days.
“Several parts of Maharashtra, including Pune, were under a yellow cold wave alert on December 11. With no further drop expected, the alert has been lifted for many areas from December 12. Pune is likely to see a slight increase in minimum temperatures,” a senior IMD official said.
