Pune: Shopkeeper Booked for Selling Counterfeit Engine Oil in Dehu Road

Pimpri Chinchwad, 23rd March 2025: Authorities have registered a case against a shopkeeper in Dehu Road for allegedly manufacturing and selling counterfeit engine oil under the guise of a reputed public sector brand. The action was taken by Dehu Road police on Friday under provisions of the Copyright Act.
According to police, the accused, a resident of Hadapsar, had been producing and packaging the fake oil in small cans, which carried stickers resembling those of a well-known petroleum company. Acting on a tip-off, a team of officers conducted a raid on the shop around 4:10 pm, seizing oil and cans worth approximately ₹1.50 lakh.
Investigators warned that the use of such counterfeit oil could lead to severe engine damage in vehicles, posing risks to consumers and causing financial losses to the affected company.
The fraudulent activity came to light when representatives from the oil company visited the store and noticed the suspiciously labeled cans. Upon closer inspection, they confirmed that the product was not genuine and immediately alerted the police.
An investigation is underway to determine the extent of the operation and whether more individuals are involved in the distribution of fake engine oil.
