Pune, 22nd October 2025: The rush to complete development works has begun in Maharashtra even before the model code of conduct for upcoming local body elections comes into effect. In a bid to fast-track projects, the state’s Rural Development Department has shortened the timelines for publishing e-tenders.

Under the new directives, works worth Rs 25 crore to Rs 100 crore must be tendered and completed within 15 days. Projects valued between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 1.5 crore are to be completed within eight days, while works costing Rs 1.5 crore to Rs 25 crore have a four-day window for the first tender. For projects exceeding Rs 100 crore, a period of 21 days has been allocated. These deadlines will remain in effect until March 31, 2026.

The Rural Development Department clarified that all Zilla Parishads are required to complete road and other infrastructure projects recommended by their department heads under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Board. Officials emphasized that adherence to these deadlines will be mandatory.

With local body elections expected by December, the department anticipates that development works could be stalled once the model code of conduct comes into force. The new tendering period is thus aimed at ensuring that essential infrastructure projects are completed on time, avoiding election-related delays.
