Pune, 2nd June 2025: Authorities have intensified an anti-encroachment operation at the historic Sinhagad Fort, with officials dismantling unauthorized RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) structures manually due to lack of vehicle access on the hilltop. The operation began on May 29 and is being carried out under challenging weather conditions, including strong winds.

Tushar Chavan, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Pune Forest Division, said, “The work is progressing steadily despite difficult terrain and weather. Most unauthorized structures have already been removed. Only a few RCC structures remain, and we expect to complete the demolition within the next two days.”

The operation is a joint effort by multiple government agencies, including the Forest Department, Archaeology Department, Revenue Department, Police, Public Works Department (PWD), and Zilla Parishad (Z.P.).

In light of the ongoing work, authorities have announced a complete closure of Sinhagad Fort on June 3 and 4, 2025, for all citizens, tourists, and trekkers. This includes foot trail access.

“We urge the public to cooperate and avoid visiting the fort during these days to ensure safety and smooth completion of the operation,” Chavan added.

The fort is expected to reopen after the clearance work is completed and safety is ensured.
