Pune: Sinhagad Road Flyover To Open By March

Pune, 9th January 2025: Citizens commuting along the congested 2.5-kilometer stretch between Rajaram Bridge and Funtime on Sinhagad Road are set to receive much-needed relief. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced that the two-kilometer-long flyover connecting Shri Vitthal Temple near Rajaram Bridge to Fun Time Theatre, Dhayari, will be operational by March 2025.
Yuvraj Deshmukh, head of the PMC’s Project Management Department, confirmed that the final stages of the project are nearing completion. “The work of laying the last girder at Hingne Chowk and constructing the ramps on both sides is in progress. Simultaneously, tasks like railing installation, asphalting, and street lighting are underway. These will be completed by mid-March, allowing us to open the flyover for public use,” he said.
The flyover is part of the PMC’s effort to address chronic traffic congestion on Sinhagad Road, the sole access route to the rapidly urbanizing Khadakwasla Dam area. The road, which was widened and concretized under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) in 2008, has since become a bottleneck due to exponential growth in traffic.
Before the construction of the flyover, commuters often faced delays of 30 to 45 minutes, sometimes stretching to an hour during peak hours. Five major intersections, including Vitthalwadi, Hingne, Santosh Hall, Manik Baug, and Ganga Bhagodaya Society, along with numerous side roads, contributed to persistent traffic snarls.
The PMC initiated the flyover project in two phases. The first phase involved constructing a 500-meter bridge at Rajaram Bridge leading to Swargate, completed prior to the Lok Sabha elections. The second phase, consisting of the double-deck flyover from Vitthal Mandir Kaman to Fun Time, is now 89% complete.
Once operational, the flyover is expected to drastically reduce travel time, with an estimated 250 vehicles saving 20 to 25 minutes daily.
