Erandwane, 29th May 2025: A tragic case of suicide has rocked Sinhgad Business School in Pune’s Erandwane, as Manoj Bhagat, a longtime employee, took his own life allegedly due to non-payment of salary for nearly two years. The incident has ignited aggressive protests by workers’ unions, with demonstrations turning violent as stones were reportedly pelted at the institute. Despite a formal complaint lodged by the victim’s family at the Kothrud Police Station, no FIR has been registered yet, leaving protestors frustrated and demanding immediate legal action.

According to media reports, Manoj Bhagat, unable to withstand the financial strain of unpaid wages, ended his life two days ago. Union members and fellow employees have launched a vocal and visible agitation, accusing the institute of gross negligence and exploitation.

Manoj, a 37-year-old electrician, had worked at Sinhgad Business School for 15 years and had not received his salary for 11 months. His elder brother, Navnath, filed the police complaint, but the investigation remains ongoing. Manoj’s final moments included a video call to a colleague, revealing his intent to end his life over unpaid wages. The family alleges that several employees, including Manoj’s brother Ganesh, are also unpaid, and that Manoj had spiraled into debt and alcohol dependency due to financial stress.

The institute’s director, Dr. Shriram Dawkar, has not commented on the incident. The police are currently recording statements and investigating the matter, while the workers’ union continues to demand justice for Manoj and accountability from the school’s management.
