Pune, 1st August 2025: Tension gripped Yavat village in Pune district after a controversial social media post triggered a violent clash between two communities. The incident involved stone-pelting and vandalism after an outsider allegedly posted an objectionable status related to a religious figure, sparking outrage.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, speaking during an event in Pune where Union Minister Nitin Gadkari received the Lokmanya Tilak National Award, addressed the issue. “An individual posted a provocative status falsely accusing a priest of a serious crime, leading to unrest between communities. Police had to resort to mild force to disperse the crowd, but the situation is now under control,” Fadnavis said.

He added that both communities have since met for peace talks and efforts are underway to de-escalate tensions. The Chief Minister condemned those deliberately trying to incite conflict. “Some people are intentionally posting such statuses to create communal friction. Law enforcement will act against them. No one has the right to insult any religion under the guise of freedom of expression,” he asserted.

Fadnavis also urged citizens to maintain peace and not take the law into their own hands. “We are verifying whether those involved are locals or outsiders. Strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to disturb harmony,” he warned.
