Pune: Six Police Personnel Suspended For Helping Prime Accused In Shiv Sena Leader Murder Case

Pune, October 30, 2020: Six policemen have been suspended from their duties by the Pune Police Commissioner for allegedly helping the prime accused Sunny Kolte in the Shiv Sena leader Deepak Maratkar murder case.

The probe has revealed that, while the police personnel were on duty the accused allegedly met notorious criminal Bapu Nayyar inside the Sassoon Hospital.

In this regard, suspension orders have been issued on Wednesday. However, special efforts were being made by the Pune City Police to ensure that their names and suspension information was not leaked.

The suspended police personnel include Subhash Nanavare, Sudhir Kuthwad, Suryakant Mankumare, Rohit Oval, Bhimashankar Thanedar, and Sanjay Chavan.

Nanavare is a police constable who had served in Railway police and had been transferred to the Pune city police department recently. The other police personnel are from the 2016 batch.

According to the information received, Maratkar was brutally murdered by 10 people on the instructions of Nayyar with a sickle over the issue of supremacy on the red light area of Budhwar Peth. The murder incident took place around midnight on October 1.

After a few days, Pune police arrested 10 people in this case. The accused had met Nayyar, who was lodged at Yerawada Central Prison since May 2016, and was undergoing treatment at Sassoon Hospital.
