Pune Sizzles at 39.7°C as Mercury Continues to Climb

Pune, 8th March 2025: Pune’s Koregaon Park recorded its highest temperature of the season on Friday, touching 39.7°C, with forecasts predicting a further rise to 40°C early next week. Meanwhile, Yavatmal became the first location in Maharashtra to breach the 40°C mark this year, registering a scorching 41.2°C.
Despite the rising temperatures, independent weather trackers suggest that Shivajinagar may not hit 40°C until at least March 14. On Friday, Shivajinagar recorded a high of 36.4°C, while Lohegaon touched 38°C.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a warning for parts of Konkan, including Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, and Ratnagiri, predicting heatwave-like conditions in isolated areas between March 9 and 11.
Experts also point to the urban heat island effect, which keeps nighttime temperatures in densely built-up areas significantly higher than in open regions.
With summer setting in early, meteorologists advise residents to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged sun exposure, as temperatures are expected to remain high in the coming weeks.
