Pune: Smuggling Beer From Goa In Name Of Medical Drug Traffic Exposed
Pune, 17th March 2023: Smuggling of beer and foreign liquor from Goa in the name of medicinal drug trafficking was exposed. A team from the State Excise Department of Talegaon Dabhade Division took action and arrested a truck driver. Liquor worth Rs 65,90,160 was also seized. This action was taken near Somatne Pathkar Nayak in Maval taluka.
The arrested truck driver has been identified as Shankarlal Narayan Joshi (46), a resident of Bassi, district Udaipur, Rajasthan. A case has been registered against him along with a person named Ompuri.
According to the information received by the State Excise Department, it was reported that liquor manufactured and licensed for sale in Goa is being transported. Accordingly, the team of Talegaon Dabhade Division laid a trap around 5.00 pm on Saturday in the area of Somatne Village.
At that time, a container truck was intercepted by the team on suspicion. When the truck was inspected, it was revealed that liquor from Goa was being smuggled in the name of transporting medicinal drugs. A total of 845 boxes of foreign liquor and beer of various brands were recovered.
A total of Rs 65,90,160 worth of various types of foreign liquor and beer for manufacture and sale were seized. Items worth Rs 86.16 lakh including liquor and the vehicle were seized.
Under the guidance of Superintendent Charanjit Singh Rajput of the State Excise Department in Pune, Deputy Superintendent Yuvraj Shinde, Inspector Sanjay Saraf of Talegaon Dabhade, a team of Sub-Inspector Deepak Supe, Priyanka Rathod, Assistant Sub-Inspector Sagar Dhurve, RC Lokhande, Jawan Tatyaba Shinde, Rahul Jaunjal, Sanjay Gore carried out the operation.
