Pune, June 27, 2020: With increasing COVID-19 patients after relaxation in lockdown, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to declare a colony, apartment or society as micro containment zone, if a minimum five COVID-19 patients are found there. They will be sealed for a minimum of seven days to maximum 14 days as per the situation. Besides that, the Municipal commissioner has decentralized the power to declare micro containment areas at the ward office level.

Municipal commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad said, “There were only nine percent containment areas across the city in the months of April and May. About 18 to 20 percent patients were from outside the containment zones. After the relaxation of lockdown, we found that patient rate was increasing outside the containment zones. Now, we have decided to declare containment zones every week instead of a fortnight.”

He added, “There is speculation that the rate will increase in the coming days. We have to be prepared to tackle every possible situation in future. So, we have taken a decision to declare housing society, colony or apartment as micro containment zone if we find a minimum of five Coronavirus positive patients there. It is one of the precautionary measurement steps.”

He further said, “The society, colony or apartment will be sealed for seven days. After taking a review or monitoring the situation, we will extend it up to 14 days.”

Currently, the city is experiencing a massive outbreak of the Coronavirus. The number of corona infections is increasing day by day. The area where corona patients are found is sealed by the municipal administration. Outside the restricted area, however, most of the establishments are open for reviving the economy. Essential commodities shops in restricted areas are kept open for a few hours and all other transactions are closed.
