Pune, 27th January 2023: At the Uruli Devachi garbage depot, a brand-new solar power plant has been installed, and it has started producing 400 units of electricity each day.

The city of Pune achieves a key milestone by becoming the first municipality to carry out this project. Through a process known as waste-to-energy, the facility, which has been established by the Pune Municipal Corporation, would utilise the waste from the depot to generate electricity.

A project with a 100 KW capacity has been installed at this location. This project, for which the municipal corporation has invested Rs 56 lakh, would provide electricity for lamps and other uses inside the depot and processing facility’s walls.

Even though it is forbidden to dump trash at Uruli Devachi’s waste treatment facility, the Municipal Corporation’s facility is nonetheless operational there. In addition, the previous waste is being used for biomining. The Municipal Corporation turned the space where rubbish was processed into a forest park and planted over 20,000 trees there after clearing the area of trash.

The initiative is also anticipated to provide job possibilities for locals in the waste management and energy generation industries. The project benefits the people, the economy, and the environment.
