Pune, 27th January 2023: Only 15–25% of the housing societies in the city have completed a fire safety examination, according to the Pune Fire Brigade Service.

Devendra Potfode, the city fire chief, provided information on the subject, stating that barely 10 to 15 per cent of Pune’s housing societies have finished Form B. However, certain societies continue to disregard the Act despite repeated warnings to do so. Therefore, we have once more urged them to submit it as soon as possible, since doing so will improve the safety and security of the societies.

Owners and occupiers are required under the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, 2006, to provide “Form B” issued by a licenced agency twice a year, in January and July. The fire officials issued a warning that societies that disobeyed would be subject to punishment.

To encourage housing societies to submit fire safety equipment reports to regional fire authorities, the State Fire Service Department has also chosen to contact members of housing societies throughout Maharashtra via the housing societies federation.
