Khadki, 11th February 2024: In a horrifying incident that took place in the Khadki area of Pune, a young man gruesomely murdered his mother by slitting her throat with a sharp knife.

The accused, identified as Dnyaneshwar Shankar Pawar (age 35), attempted to flee but was nabbed by Khadki Police in the Shirdi area on Sunday evening.

The deceased, Gumfabai Shankar Pawar (55), native of Muthe Vadgaon in Srirampur, District Ahmednagar, fell prey to her son’s violent act. Dnyaneshwar, a technician in the telecommunication department at Ammunition Factory Khadki, had been living alone due to his marital separation.

According to Senior Police Inspector Girish Dighavkar of Khadki police station, preliminary investigations suggest that the heinous crime may have been fueled by a family dispute and the accused’s struggles with depression. Dnyaneshwar, who resided in Range Hills Quarters, lured his mother to his residence out of affection.

The incident occurred around eleven o’clock on Saturday night when Dnyaneshwar mercilessly slit his mother’s throat with a sharp knife.

The alarm was raised by concerned neighbors on Sunday morning when they noticed the locked door. Upon being unable to contact Gumfabai’s second son in Dehu, suspicions grew. Khadki police were alerted, and upon gaining entry, the body of Gumfabai was discovered, drenched in blood.

Senior Inspector Dighavkar directed the detection branch team, comprising Police Sub-Inspector Anna Gunjal, along with police personnel Sandesh Nikalje and others, to promptly respond. The accused, Dnyaneshwar, was successfully detained in the Shirdi area during the evening, based on the team’s efforts.

A case has been registered against Dnyaneshwar Shankar Pawar at the Khadki Police Station. Further investigation is going on.
