Pune, February 23, 2024: In celebration of Sant Gadgebaba Jayanti, the Pune Municipal Corporation has initiated the “Pehel-2024” program, aimed at promoting cleanliness and environmental consciousness. Starting on Sunday (February 25), the city will witness the implementation of this campaign, focusing on the collection of e-waste and plastic. Multiple centres, numbering four or more, will be set up across various locations for the collection of these types of waste from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Every year, as part of Sant Gadgebaba Jayanti, the Pune Municipal Corporation conducts various environmental initiatives. These include cleanliness drives, waste segregation awareness programs, and identifying areas where waste is improperly disposed of. Under the Pehel-2024 program, the focus is on collecting e-waste and plastic. This initiative is being organized with the assistance of organizations such as Cummins India, KPIT, and local environmental NGOs.

On Sunday (February 25), more than four waste collection centres will be established throughout the city as part of this campaign. Additionally, on Saturday (February 24), e-waste and plastic collection drives will be conducted in schools and colleges. Various awareness programs regarding waste management will also be held. Items collected during the campaign will undergo proper recycling, and needy students and educational institutions will receive the collected materials. The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board has registered participating organizations, and they will ensure the environmentally safe disposal of e-waste and plastic. A list of collection centres has been made available on the Pune Municipal Corporation’s website.
