Pune: Special Teams Deployed To Combat Potholes In PCMC’s Eight Zones
Pimpri Chinchwad, 9th August 2023: To address the persistent issue of potholes marring the city’s roads, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has taken a proactive step by constituting special repair teams. These dedicated teams, comprising one vehicle, two laborers, and essential construction materials, have been tasked with the critical mission of pothole repair.
Operating throughout the week during the rainy season, their concerted efforts aim to enhance road quality and ensure safer commutes for residents.
PCMC’s thoroughfares have been grappling with a substantial count of 3,646 potholes. While the municipal corporation asserts that 3,227 of these craters have already been addressed, the relentless rain continues to create new gaps and crannies on city roads. Furthermore, horizontal trenches dug for various utilities and the excavation of ditches alongside roads have inadvertently contributed to the emergence of these road hazards. In response, the Municipal Corporation has embraced this approach to tackle potholes, leveraging an array of materials such as gravel, murum, sand, paving blocks, concrete, cold mix, and hot mix asphalt.
A comprehensive inspection of road segments was conducted by Additional Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale, wherein he surveyed the Chikhali Sonwane Vasti Road, Talwade Rupinagar Main Road, Tower Line Road, Chikhaligaon Road, Chikhali Morevasti, Sane Chowk to Chinche Mala Road, Mukai Chowk to Kiwale Village Road, Punavle Subway to Gaikwadnagar, and Koyte Vasti.
During this evaluation, immediate directives were issued to address the potholes identified along these routes. Jambhale emphasized the utilization of asphalt or the cold mix technique for pothole restoration.
The concerted effort to eliminate potholes is in full swing across all the zonal offices of the Municipal Corporation, with special teams spearheading the initiative. Prompt action is ensured upon receiving complaints from vigilant citizens, as the process of rectifying potholes is executed without delay.
