Pune: Sports Competitions Held For Disabled Students; 1,537 Athletes Participate

Pune, 23rd January 2023: Disability Welfare Department under Pune Zilla Parishad (ZP) organized district-level disabled school sports competitions on January 16, 20, and 23.

Sports competitions were inaugurated on January 23 at Saint Dnyaneshwar Sports Complex, Indrayani Nagar, Bhosari by ZP Chief Executive Officer Ayush Prasad. 1,537 disabled athletes from 77 special schools in the Pune district participated in this competition.

On the occasion of the inauguration, the students were praised for appreciating the Yogasana presented by the students of Chinchwad Badhir Mook Vidyalaya and the welcome song and ‘ishastavan’ presented by the blind students of Patashibai Lunkad Blind School and Jagruti Blind Girls School. The competition like running with one crutch and running with two crutches was inaugurated by flagging off on the said occasion.

On this occasion Chandrakant Waghmare, ZP Additional Chief Executive Officer, Pravin Korgantiwar, District Social Welfare Officer, Rohini More, Medical Social Worker, Shantilal Lunkad, Founder of Blind Children School were present. The program was hosted by Sangeeta Kumthekar and Ravindra Joshi.

On January 20, 234 athletes from 21 schools took part in four categories of shot put, long jump, and softball throw at Child Welfare Institute, Pune. Similarly, the shot put and long jump competitions were held at Ayodhya Charitable Trust Pune. On January 16, swimming and chess competitions were held at Child Welfare Institute, Pune. 120 visually impaired students from five schools and 105 visually impaired students from five schools participated in the swimming and chess competitions respectively from 24 schools.
