Pune 4th Sept 2023: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has given a conditional consent to prepone the construction deadline of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) chowk flyover. The PMRDA has directed the concerned officials to complete the work before August 2024 instead of November 2024 as proposed before.

This comes after the Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar directed the authorities to speed up the work and prepone the deadline. He had conducted a meeting with concerned stakeholders last month in which he had asked the officials to complete the work before the proposed deadline to avoid inconvenience to the commuters. It may be noted that a heavy traffic jam is reported on this stretch every day during the peak hours.

According to the officials, the PMRDA is also calculating the escalated cost that will be added to speed up the work and a permission has been sought to barricade the area before September 15 this year. A total of about 22% work of the SPPY flyover is completed and around 44% of the work of the Metro line between Shivajinagar and Hinjewadi is also completed. The PMRDA officials have said that the new deadline can only be met if they are provided all the necessary permissions on priority.

The double-deck flyover at SPPU chowk is a part of the Metro line for which the work is being carried out by PMRDA on a Public Private Partnership Model.
