Pune: SPPU Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Ramkumar Rathi Group for Promotion of Yoga; Aims to Establish Yoga Research Centre

Pune, 10th January 2024: The Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ramkumar Rathi Group to establish Yoga Research Centres for conducting evidence-based studies on the impact of health through the practice of yoga.

The MoU signing took place in the presence of Vice-Chancellor of SPPU, Dr. Suresh Gosavi, Prof. Bhushan Patwardhan, the Biomedical Scientist and Distinguished Prof of Health Sciences, Rahul Rathi, the Director of Rathi Group, Dr. Raghu Sundaram, the Prof of New York University, Dr. Parag Kalkar, the Pro VC of SPPU, and the in-charge Registrar Dr. Vijay Khare. The HOD of the Health Sciences Department of SPPU, Dr. Abhay Kudale, and Dr. Sanjay Dhole were also present.

Rathi, while sharing his thoughts, spoke about the international recognition of yoga. Under the leadership of SPPU, they aim to conduct research and promote yoga. The MoU outlines provisions for training in yoga through online and offline modes, providing job opportunities and internships, one-on-one health guidance, and community extension and outreach programs.

Rathi highlighted that the Yoga Research Centre will facilitate interdisciplinary research, award recognition at the international level, and the publication of various literature related to yoga. In the meeting, there was a request for a separate building and committee to coordinate the activities of the center.

Rathi expressed optimism that this project will significantly benefit students, researchers, and practitioners.
