Pune: SPPU Tightens Campus Entry, Allows Access Mainly for Official Work; Student Groups Oppose Move

Pune, 22nd October 2026: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has tightened entry checks at its gates, restricting campus access mainly to visitors with official work while continuing to allow morning and evening walkers during fixed hours.

Registrar Prafulla Pawar said the university was restoring its earlier arrangement after campus roads were opened to ease traffic congestion during the Ganeshkhind Road flyover reconstruction. He said increased traffic had become a safety concern for students.

However, student groups have objected to the move, alleging that security guards were denying entry without clear written instructions. They have demanded that the university clarify its policy.
