Pune: SPPU Warns Of Disciplinary Action Against Faculty Skipping Exam Duties
Pune, 30th September 2026: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has begun preparations to ensure that its winter examinations are conducted on time and in a transparent manner. The university’s Board of Examinations and Evaluation has warned of disciplinary and punitive action against faculty members who remain absent despite being appointed for examination duties, as well as colleges that fail to relieve such faculty members from their regular responsibilities.
The university has issued instructions to principals and directors of all affiliated colleges and recognised institutes in Pune, Ahilyanagar and Nashik districts.
According to university officials, several faculty members had previously stayed away from examination-related duties either by citing various reasons or remaining absent without permission. The university said such lapses had affected the examination process and contributed to delays in declaring results.
The university will constitute a five-member special committee to inquire into cases of negligence by faculty members assigned examination duties. Based on the committee’s report, the director of the Board of Examinations and Evaluation will initiate legal action against those found responsible, following orders from the vice-chancellor.
Colleges have been directed to immediately relieve faculty members selected for examination duties. The university has also expected the appointed faculty members to discharge their responsibilities seriously.
Director of the Board of Examinations and Evaluation Dr Rajendra Talware said colleges must ensure that faculty members appointed for examination work are relieved without delay.
Citing Sections 48(3)(b), 48(4) and 48(5) of the Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016, the university said it was mandatory for all teaching and non-teaching staff to cooperate with examination-related work.
The university has warned that remaining absent from assigned examination duties after appointment would be treated as a serious lapse and misconduct, and could invite disciplinary action.
