Pune, 3rd November 2023: In a significant relief for passengers gearing up for Diwali, the State Transport (ST) buses have resumed operations smoothly from all depots. Previously halted due to the ongoing agitation, 780 bus trips originating from Pune depots have been reinstated, bringing respite to commuters heading towards Marathwada and Vidarbha regions.

ST buses were adversely affected during the Maratha reservation movement, prompting precautionary cancellations at various locations. The recent suspension of the agitation has paved the way for the reinstatement of bus services, with a particular emphasis on prioritizing school rounds as half-term examinations are underway statewide.

Commencing from November 9, the ST bus services are gearing up to manage the anticipated surge in Diwali-related traffic. The resumption of the red fairy on all routes since Friday morning has been a welcome sight for commuters, especially those traveling to villages during the festive season.

The reopening of ST bus services has not only eased the commute for passengers but has also revitalized businesses that were disrupted due to the suspension of internet services. The cancellation of bus trips across several districts had led to passenger inconvenience, prompting the corporation to release trains left idle by other departments since Thursday night.

The closure of ST services during the start of Diwali holidays left many students in Pune stranded. Seizing the opportunity, private bus drivers increased ticket prices by half, exploiting the lack of alternative transport options. With the resumption of ST bus operations, the transport landscape is expected to stabilize, providing a smoother travel experience for passengers during the festive season.
