Viman Nagar, 3rd November 2023: In response to mounting complaints from residents about the rampant proliferation of illegal hoardings in Viman Nagar, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) commenced the removal of such advertisements on Thursday. However, concerns linger as unauthorized hoardings persist in areas like Konarknagar, Lunkad Queensland Chowk, and the vicinity of the Ganapati temple.

Expressing their dissatisfaction, residents emphasized that the ongoing action in Viman Nagar falls short of addressing the broader issue. Nilambari Ghosh, a resident, voiced concerns about the unregulated placement of hoardings, extending even to footpaths. “Unauthorized hoardings not only compromise the aesthetics of the area but also pose safety risks by obstructing pedestrian pathways,” Ghosh stated.

An official from the PMC’s Skysign Department acknowledged the issue and assured that all unauthorized hoardings in Viman Nagar would be taken down, with a penalty of Rs 1,000 per hoarding imposed. The civic body aims to curb the visual clutter caused by these unauthorized structures.

Resident Sandeep Gaware highlighted a broader concern, noting the surge in poster banners across the city. However, Viman Nagar seems to be particularly affected. Gaware expressed dismay at the lack of regulations and enforcement in addressing this issue. “Why are authorities not taking action? It’s getting worse day by day. There must be some accountability,” Gaware asserted.

The challenge lies in balancing the commercial interests of advertisers with the visual harmony and safety of public spaces. The PMC’s ongoing efforts in Viman Nagar mark a step toward addressing these concerns, but residents emphasize the need for a more comprehensive and citywide approach to tackle the growing issue of unauthorized hoardings.
