Pune: State Govt Sends Indrayani River Rejuvenation Project Proposal To Center For Approval

Pune 25th Sept 2023: The state government has sent the Indrayani River Rejuvenation project proposal to the central government for approval. The project proposed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has received an approval from the state government and it will be implemented after receiving an approval from the state government.

The project covers the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation area and 46 other villages. It envisions various measures to clean and rejuvenate the river. It includes plans to develop riverfronts at key locations along the river, setting up water treatment systems and installing gates to regulate the flow of sewage. As part of the current proposal, 54 villages and towns along both banks of the Indrayani River will be involved in the process of curbing river pollution.

The project encompasses the participation of three municipal corporations – Lonavala, Talegaon Dabhade, and Alandi – two municipal councils – Vadgaon and Dehu – Dehu Cantonment Board, three gram panchayats with a population of more than 15,000 each and 46 other gram panchayats. The current proposal has been submitted to the National River Conservation Directorate. Funding for pollution control efforts will be shared in a 60:40 ratio between the central and state governments. As of now, a detailed project report of Rs 577.16 crores has been submitted to the Maharashtra government and the current proposal has been accepted by the state’s environmental department.
