Pune: Strict Curfew in Kothrud, Karve Nagar, Warje, Sinhgad Road surrounding areas

Pune, April 9, 2020: Due to the rising number of Coronavirus positive cases in Pune, police officials have started strictly enforcing lockdown in some areas. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has already declared a health emergency and sealed areas in Kondhwa and central part of Pune including Peth areas.

 

Now areas along Sinhgad road including Vadgaon Budruk, Hingne, Dhayari etc besides Karve Nagar, Kothrud, Warje, Shivane among others, have been almost sealed. Shops are allowed to open for a few hours in the morning.

 

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Pournima Gaikwad, under whose jurisdiction these areas are located, told Punekarnews.in, “Wherever required we are taking action. We have closed internal roads joining main roads to restrict the movement of vehicles. People can walk to buy grocery or other essential commodities.”

 

Pune Police Commissioner Dr K Venkatesham made it clear yesterday that strict curfew will be imposed in whole Pune city if the number of Coronavirus positive cases did not drop in the next few days. People should keep stock of necessary things for at least 10 days and should not come out of homes frequently under the pretext of buying essential commodities.

 

Pune Mayor Murlidhar Mohol said that the number of deaths due to Coronavirus COVID19 has reached 20 today, while total positive cases have reached 204. There are 22 positive cases from PCMC areas while 14 are in Pune rural areas. Out of 20 dead, 1 is from Baramati while 19 are from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) areas.

According to the Maharashtra Health department, 162 new COVID19 positive cases have been reported in Maharashtra today, taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 1297. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, across the country, there is an increase of 540 new COVID19 cases and 17 deaths in the last 24 hours. India’s total number of #Coronavirus positive cases has increased to 5734 (including 5095 active cases, 473 cured/discharged and 166 deaths).

 

As the number of Coronavirus positive cases are increasing day by day, Pune City Police has made it mandatory for people to wear a mask all the time, if they are outside their homes. Pune Police Jt CP Ravindra Shisve issued an order yesterday in this regard. “Mask can be made of cloth or three-layer mask (available in Medical shops). Any person outside his/her house has to wear the mask”, the order states.

 

There are government, private companies staffs who have to go out to perform duties. Then there are people who are going out to buy vegetables, milk or grocery items. Everybody has to wear a mask. If anybody is found without a mask, FIR will be registered against them for an offence under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code and relevant section of the Disaster Management Act.
