Pune, November 4, 2020: With the participation of fifteen universities worldwide, as many as 35 students of Bhanuben Nanavati College of Architecture (BNCA) for Women have completed the global classroom project ‘SEE: Our City’. This project focuses on some major improvements in the Deccan Gymkhana area’s infrastructure, which will be presented to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) administration.

Students have studied the area from the Garware subway to Deccan Gymkhana. The study was done to make the Deccan Gymkhana area beautiful and comfortable to walk. 3D graphics, walk-throughs are used to give a real motion experience. This was followed by an online presentation by experts from fifteen universities around the world.

“The brief was that we look at an urban sight in our city, observe and identify the issue and give design intervention. Accordingly, we chose Garware underpass, Goodluck Chowk and Prayag Hospital. We looked into it and studied, and we came up with design intervention. These proposals are practical and futuristic models”, Professor Shruti Joshi, Director, BNCA International Cell, told Punekarnews.in.

Joshi added, “This project proposes coloured lights for specific areas, natural alterations in the roofs of small street shops, seating benches, parking arrangements, and skywalk to connect Gopalkrishna Gokhale Road-Jangali Maharaj Road, adjoining parking lot near Deccan Gymkhana bus stand. These changes will bring the bustle in the area under control and allow citizens to walk freely”.

This project was done under the guidance of Principal Anurag Kashyap, Professor Shruti Joshi, Coordinator Ar. Surabhi Gadkari, Mentor Ar.Anita Khandekar, Ar. Anita Dake, Dr Neeti Trivedi, Ar.Kalpana Pednekar, Ar.Shruti Ramteerthkar, and Ar.Tapati Bhanja.

“This is an attempt to go beyond classroom education and focus on education that is connected to the practical world. Accordingly, after a thorough study of the Deccan Gymkhana premises, considering the feasibility of this project, it will be forwarded to the Pune Municipal Corporation”, said Principal Anurag Kashyap.
