Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has decided to give Govindas the benefit of a five percent reservation in government jobs and organise a ‘Pro Govinda’ competition, giving Dahihandi the status of a sport. The state government had given the status of the adventurous sport in 2016 as well. However, the new decision has been opposed by the students in the wake of recent revelations of malpractice in the players’ certificates.

MPSC Coordinating Committee’s Rahul Kawthekar said, “The government’s decision to give Dahihandi players the benefit of reservation is very wrong. The government should withdraw this decision. This decision will be unfair to the candidates and players who have been studying for years. The decision taken by the government is alarming when a lot of malpractice in player certification is seen.”

The Government should take action against those who got jobs in government service with duplicate sports certificates before the inclusion of Govinda in the player reservation. Since Govinda is a once-a-year game, the government should think about how the players who play this game will join the group.
