Pune, 4th Novemeber 2022: World No. 3 Sukant Kadam parked himself into the medal-round by booking a semifinal berth in the Men’s Singles SL-4 event in the ongoing BWF Para-World Badminton Championship 2022 at Tokyo, Japan.

Living up to expectations, second seeded Sukant continued his clean run, downing veteran Chee Hiong Ang (Singapore) 21-10, 21-15. The win was the Pune-based shuttler’s fourth-in-a-row and importantly his second last-4 entry at the Worlds.

Going into the match with a head-to-head 1-0 advantage, 29-year-old Sukant took just 24 minutes to wrap up the match against his opponent who was 14 years older! Sukant had earlier this year beaten World No. 14 in the Spanish Para Badminton International in straight games.

Showing no mercy whatsoever, Sukant said; “I was confident against him and ensured I began on the front-foot. My only target was to win and not allow him any opportunity to dominate… I guess the tactic worked.”

Next-up for Sukant is the challenge of World No. 7 Fredy Setiawan in what is a battle of two semifinalists of the last edition.
