Pune: Survey Conducted to Ease Traffic Woes in Hinjawadi IT Park; Key Choke Points Identified, Action Plan Underway
Hinjawadi, 20th July 2025: In a major step towards easing traffic congestion in the bustling Hinjawadi IT Park, a detailed on-ground survey was conducted by the Pimpri Chinchwad Police and the E-Petition Team (Unclog Hinjawadi IT Park) on July 19, following directives from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The inspection took place between 10 am and 2:30 pm under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Pimpri Chinchwad. The survey was initiated as part of the July 10 action plan discussed with the Chief Minister.
“The survey was a result of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ instructions. Police Commissioner Vinay Chaubey directed us to carry out this exercise to identify congestion points and implement on-ground solutions,” said Sachin Londhe of the Unclog Hinjawadi IT Park team.
The survey identified over 10 major trouble spots including:
- Madhuban Hotel Chowk (near Indian Oil pump)
- Shell Petrol Pump Chowk (before Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk) – a key bottleneck
- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk – issues with U-turn traffic and ongoing median design review
- Pandav Nagar Chowk (near Tata Technologies/Infosys Circle) – creates a 2 km backlog affecting nearby societies
- Man Devi Mandir Road (Phase 3) and SEZ Bhavan Circle – problems due to wrong-side driving
- Wipro Phase 2 Circle, Croma Chowk/Amsterdam Hotel Chowk, and Mindtree Consulting Junction – identified for frequent gridlocks and confusing traffic patterns
- Bhujbal Chowk (Service Road under Hinjawadi Bridge and NH) – heavy congestion due to merging vehicles
“The congestion in these areas is not just about traffic volume, but also due to infrastructural gaps like missing dividers, signal confusion, and wrong-side driving. Our focus is to solve these issues with practical, time-bound measures,” Londhe added.
Planned Immediate Interventions Include:
- Portable traffic signals at high-traffic junctions
- Increased deployment of traffic police and wardens during peak hours
- Installation of dividers and closing unnecessary junctions
- Strong action against wrong-side driving
- Facilitating uninterrupted free-left turns
Implementation is expected to roll out within the next 2–3 weeks, depending on traffic unit manpower.
“We are working with a committed, result-oriented mindset to deliver relief to thousands of commuters in Hinjawadi. This is not just a survey, it’s a firm step toward long-term decongestion,” Londhe emphasized.
The Unclog Hinjawadi IT Park initiative has been receiving strong support from both the administration and the public, raising hopes that smoother traffic may soon be a reality in one of Pune’s busiest tech corridors.
