Pune : Swimming Pool Gas Leak In Kasarwadi Prompts Notice and Legal Action Against Maintenance Agency
Kasarwadi, 11th October 2023 – In a concerning incident at the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar swimming pool managed by the Municipal Corporation, a chlorine gas leak from a storage tank triggered a swift response from authorities. The incident has resulted in the evacuation and hospitalization of several individuals and has prompted the initiation of legal action against the responsible maintenance agency.
The chlorine gas leak occurred at the Babasaheb Ambedkar swimming pool in Kasarwadi. The vigilant response of the swimming pool’s manager and lifeguards averted a potential catastrophe as they immediately noticed the gas leak. A total of 16 citizens, including 12 civilians, 4 lifeguards, and 1 security guard, were promptly evacuated from the vicinity. Following their evacuation, they were transported to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.
The maintenance of the swimming pool, including water purification, premises cleaning, cleaning maintenance, and mechanical maintenance repairs, was entrusted to Sumit Sports and Fitness Equipment Agency. During the investigation into the incident, it was revealed that the chlorine gas tank, which was implicated in the gas leak, was in a deteriorated condition due to age and rust.
Authorities have issued a formal notice to Sumit Sports and Fitness Equipment Agency, demanding an immediate and comprehensive explanation for the laxity in maintenance and the safety precautions taken. Strict actions will be taken against the agency for its alleged negligence in ensuring the safety of the facility and its patrons, said officials.
In response to this alarming incident, the Municipal Administration has also confirmed that a legal case is being registered against Sumit Sports and Fitness Equipment Agency at the Bhosari Police Station. This action is taken with the intent of holding the agency accountable for creating a situation that posed harm to citizens and endangered lives.
