Pune: Teacher Beats Student with Ruler at School, Complaint Filed With Police

Pune, 12th April 2024: A teacher at the New Marathi School on Bajirao Road, is accused of severely beating a student for not writing in cursive. The incident occurred on March 7th around 3 p.m., the substitute teacher allegedly struck the boy’s hands and back with a ruler and a wooden desk edge. Initially, the student refrained from informing his parents due to exam-related fears. However, following the publicization of the incident, the parents lodged a complaint at Vishrambag Police Station on April 8th.

The parents have urged the Shikshan Prasarak Mandali to take strict action against the teacher to prevent future acts of violence against students. They express concerns that failure to take action may result in further students being subjected to similar abuse. The parents also emphasize the potentially serious consequences if the teacher is not held accountable. In a letter addressed to Ed. S. K. Jain, Chairman of the Governing Board of Shikshan Prasarak Mandali, they stressed the immediate need for action to ensure the safety and well-being of all students at the New Marathi School.
