Pune: Teacher Found Drunk And Unconscious In Zilla Parishad Primary School, Inquiry Committee Appointed
Baramati, 23rd June 2023: In a shocking incident today, a teacher at Bhoitewadi Zilla Parishad Primary School, under the jurisdiction of Tardoli (T. Baramati) Gram Panchayat, was found inebriated and passed out on a table.
The alarming discovery was made by a vigilant citizen who happened to visit the school, and he captured a video of the incident. As a result, an inquiry committee has been established by the Baramati Taluka Block Education Officer, who has indicated that strict action will be taken.
The school currently has 25 students, and within just 15 days of the academic year commencing, teacher Bharat Chavan began exhibiting signs of misconduct. Despite being given an opportunity to improve by the villagers last year, Chavan failed to rectify his behavior. He seemed to be under the misguided impression that he was above the law, and as a consequence, the young students had to witness an unprofessional Guruji.
Today, Gram Panchayat member Santosh Chaudhary and his colleague Satish Bhapkar paid an unexpected visit to the school. At the time, headmaster Ashok Jagdale was conducting a class with all the children. While Chaudhary went to the second classroom, he discovered Bharat Chavan, the teacher, slumped in a chair with his head resting on the table, deeply asleep. Chavan woke up only after Chaudhary called him multiple times.
However, Chaudhary soon realized that Chavan’s unconscious state was a result of excessive alcohol consumption. Finally, Chaudhary recorded a video of the incident, in which Chavan can be heard mumbling incoherently. The video also shows Chavan struggling to walk and pretending to be unwell.
It is reported that the students have endured this situation for the past year. The incident has sparked widespread discussions in Baramati and has shed light on the presence of similar teachers in primary and secondary schools, prompting calls for strict action against them. Parents are expressing their concerns and emphasizing the need for more vigilant individuals like Santosh Chaudhary, who prioritize the well-being of the students. Even qualified teachers are disheartened by this incident.
Chaudhary expressed his thoughts, stating, “The underprivileged children study in this school with the hope of receiving a quality education. We repeatedly requested Chavan to improve his conduct. Today, we found evidence of his drunkenness. We intended to take him for a medical examination, but he left. The education department must take this matter seriously and provide us with competent teachers.”
Block Education Officer Sampat Gawde confirmed that an inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the teacher in question. The report is expected to be released tomorrow, and a medical examination will also be conducted. A notice has been issued to the Principal, and both the Block Development Officer and Zilla Parishad have been informed about the incident.
