Pune: Techie On Solo Trek To Dhakoba Stuck In Valley For 11 Hours, Rescued

Junnar, 31st July 2022: A solo trek to Dhakoba almost claimed the life of a software engineer from Hyderabad. He got stuck in the valley for 11 hours in the middle of the night. As his mobile phone had a network, the mountaineering organizations were contacted and timely help saved the life of this young man.

Vinodji Chalpati Bagul, a techie from Hyderabad, came to Murbad on Saturday evening to trek Dhakoba as a solo trekker through Google search. From there he arrived at Tokavde at 3 pm and started climbing to Durg Dhakoba with a 15 kg bag on his shoulder. But around 5 pm, he got stuck in the middle due to heavy fog. At night, he contacted the Maharashtra Mountaineering Rescue Coordination Center (MMRCC).

Accordingly, Onkar Oak contacted Deepak Vishay of Sahyagiri Adventure Club of Murbad. Deepak Vishe, Kusum Vishe and Shantaram Bamane came to Junnar at 1 am. Along with Santhosh Kabadi and Prashant Kabadi of the disaster management team from Junnar, they reached Durgwadi area at 2 am via Anglun with rescue materials and an ambulance. Taking Laxman Nirmal, a local potter, he started to descend from the ghat. At 4 am, after the weather cleared somewhat, they started to descend.

Descending 700 to 800 feet, they rescued Vinodji and took him to Durgwadi at 10 am. After that, he was released after recording his statement at Junnar Police Station, Pune rural police.
