Pune: Teen Escapes Juvenile Home, Drowns in Baramati Canal; Investigation Underway

Baramati, 21st February 2025: A tragic incident unfolded in Baramati when a 15-year-old boy drowned in a canal after escaping from the Church of Christ Boys’ Home along with two others. The incident occurred on Tuesday, 18th February, when the three juveniles left the correctional home without permission.

According to the Baramati City Police, the boys—Rajveer Virdhawal Shinde, Arjun Waghari, and Moin Amir Sheikh—had been residing at the children’s home since 2018. Around 4:30 PM on Tuesday, they ventured to Nataraj Park for a walk before deciding to bathe in a nearby canal. Unfortunately, Shinde, who could not swim, was swept away by the current.

A search operation was launched immediately, and on Thursday, 20th February, authorities recovered Shinde’s body from the canal near Bandalwadi, Taluka Baramati. Following a complaint from the Boys’ Home Superintendent Robert Vasant Gaikwad, a case of accidental death has been registered. Baramati City Police Inspector Vishal Nale is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape and subsequent drowning.
