Pune: Thieves Break Donation Boxes at Kasba Ganpati Temple, Steal Cash

Pune, 6th October 2026: Thieves broke into the iconic Kasba Ganpati temple, the city’s gram daivat, in the early hours of Tuesday and fled with more than Rs 50,000 in cash after breaking open donation boxes, police said.

The incident took place between 4am and 5am, following which the temple was kept closed to devotees until the afternoon.

Police said the thieves targeted the donation boxes and escaped with the cash. The Faraskhana police have registered an FIR and launched an investigation to identify and trace the suspects.

“We received information about the incident in the morning. An FIR has been registered and we are working to detect the offence,” said DCP (Crime Branch) Gauhar Hasan.

Police teams are examining CCTV footage from the temple and surrounding areas to trace the movements of the suspects and identify those involved. Further investigation is underway.
