Pune: Three Die in Separate Drowning Incidents in Maval and Mulshi

Pune, 18th May 2026: Three people, including two students, died in separate drowning incidents reported from Pune district within a single day, police said.

In the first incident, two students drowned in the Shirota Dam area under the jurisdiction of Kamshet police station in Maval taluka. According to police, a group of six students had visited the dam for an outing when two of them entered the water and drowned after misjudging its depth.

The deceased have been identified as Arya Sushant Bandawar, a student from Gondia, and Karan Dnyandev Thombre from Satara district.

After receiving information about the incident, Kamshet police rushed to the spot. Local residents attempted to rescue the students before the police arrived, but both could not be saved. Further investigation is underway.

In another incident, a 36-year-old man drowned in the Mula River near Mulkhed village in Mulshi taluka. The deceased, identified as Pankaj Bhimrao Kedari, a resident of Pashan, had gone to the riverside with friends for a party.

Police said Pankaj entered the river on Saturday afternoon but suddenly started drowning and disappeared in the water. After being alerted, personnel from Paud police station and the Mulshi disaster management team launched a search operation. However, the search had to be suspended at night due to darkness.

On Sunday morning, his body was found floating in the river. The disaster management team recovered the body and sent it to a rural hospital for post-mortem examination. After the procedure, the body was handed over to his family members.

Police are further investigating both incidents.
