Pune: Three Friends Drown While Trying to Save Another in Indrayani River

Dehu, 14th March 2025: Tragedy struck at the Bodkewadi embankment near Dehu Road when three young men drowned in the Indrayani River while attempting to rescue their friend. The incident occurred around 4 PM on Dhulivandan (Holi) when a group of friends had gone to the river to celebrate.

According to Senior Police Inspector Vikram Bansode, the deceased have been identified as Raj Dilip Aghame (25), Akash Vitthal Gorde (24), and Gautam Kamble (24), all residents of Chikhali.

As per Pimpri Chinchwad police reports, a group of six friends had entered the river at Bodkewadi embankment for a swim. When one of them started struggling in the water, his friends rushed to help. While the drowning friend was successfully rescued, three of the rescuers were unable to stay afloat and lost their lives.

A search operation was immediately launched, and a team from the Vanyajiv Rakshak Maval organization recovered the bodies around 5:45 PM. The rescue team included Nilesh Garade, Bhaskar Mali, Vinay Sawant, Ganesh Gaikwad, Shubham Kakade, Ravi Koli, Ganesh Sondekar, Vikas Doddi, and Pramod Jadhav.

Upon receiving information about the incident, rescue teams from Vanyajiv Rakshak Maval, NDRF, PMRDA, and the Fire Brigade were deployed for search and recovery operations.

The Dehu Road police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations.
