Katraj, 14th March 2025: Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) member Yogesh Tilekar has instructed officials and contractors to ensure the completion of the Katraj Chowk flyover by December 2025. During an inspection of the ongoing work, he held discussions with officials from various departments to address the challenges delaying the project and explore possible solutions.

The Katraj Chowk flyover project had been stalled for months due to land acquisition issues and traffic planning challenges. However, work has now resumed, with girders being laid on the pillars.

“Once completed, the flyover will permanently ease traffic congestion at Katraj Chowk and Kondhwa Road,” said Tilekar. He also instructed authorities to coordinate with traffic police for better traffic management and to expedite the stalled 24×7 water supply scheme.

The site inspection was attended by several officials, including:
Prabhakar Kadam, former Sarpanch Vyankaji Khopde, Tushar Kadam, Vikas Fate, Raju Kadam
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Amol Zende
Assistant Commissioners Ashwini Rakh and Shilpa Lambe
Head of Roads Department Aniruddha Pawaskar
Deputy Engineer Dilip Pandkar
NHAI Executive Engineer Shruti Naik
Branch Engineer Salim Sheikh
Water Supply Officer Shrikant Vaidande
Ward Office Representative Laxman Kadbane

The Katraj-Kondhwa Road is set to be widened to 84 meters. The Maharashtra government sanctioned ₹140 crore seven months ago for cash compensation to landowners affected within a 50-meter radius of the main and service roads. Despite PMC having ₹280 crore available for the project, work remains delayed.

Tilekar stated that he would raise the issue of accelerating road widening and land acquisition during the upcoming Legislative Council budget session. He added that the 32 required sites would be acquired through the District Collector’s Office by compensating landowners. If land acquisition is completed on time, the Katraj-Kondhwa Road expansion could be finished within one to two years.

NHAI Executive Engineer Shruti Naik stated, “The work of laying girders on the pillars is in full swing, and all girders for the flyover are ready. If the municipality hands over the necessary land, the filling work will be completed before the monsoon. We are making every effort to complete the project by December 2025.”

Meanwhile, Chief Engineer of the PMC Roads Department, Aniruddha Pawaskar, assured that after acquiring Sanjay Gugle’s land at Katraj Chowk, road concreting will be completed in April, and the road will open for traffic within 15 days after that.
