Pune: Three Men Arrested For Demanding ‘Hafta’ And Assaulting Shopkeeper In Thergaon

Pune 23rd August 2023: The Pimpri Chinchwad Police have booked three people for allegedly demanding ‘hafta’ from a shopkeeper and assaulting him in Thergaon area. The incident took place at around 10:30 pm near Kalewadi Phata in Thergaon.

According to police, the complainant is a resident of Uttar Pradesh and he runs a shop in the area. The accused on several occasions threatened him demanding ‘hafta’ to continue running a shop in the area. However, on August 19 the accused entered into his shop and assaulted him and his brother for not paying him extortion money.

The accused also threatened to burn down his shop if he complained about the incident to police. ‘You can call police or anyone else if you do not give us extortion money we will burn down your shop once released from police custody’ the accused said as stated by the complainant.

A case in this regard has been registered against three accused identified as Shakir Taher Sayyed (34), Imran Ibrahim Shaikh (35) and Haji Malang Daulat Shaikh (27) under sections 386, 387, 452, 323, 504 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The accused have been arrested by police in the case and further investigation in the matter is underway.
