Shikrapur, 11th May 2025: Three youths lost their lives in a tragic road accident on Friday night when a PMPML bus rammed into their scooter from behind on the Shikrapur-Talegaon Dhamdhere road, roughly 40 km from Pune city. The incident occurred around 9 pm.

The deceased have been identified as Harshal Ghume (20) and Prathmesh Shelar (20), both residents of Talegaon Dabhade, and Ayush Jadhav (16) from Kamshet. All three were riding triple-seat on a scooter and none were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, according to police.

Assistant Inspector Rahul Deshmukh from Shikrapur police station said, “Ghume was riding the two-wheeler. He had picked up Jadhav and Shelar earlier in the evening. Unfortunately, none of them had helmets on. The collision took place when a PMPML bus tried to overtake their scooter and struck it from behind.”

The bus was en route to Talegaon Dhamdhere from Shikrapur when the accident occurred. Police say the impact threw all three youths off the scooter. Locals and police personnel quickly transported them to a nearby private hospital, but doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.

Further investigation revealed that Jadhav, the youngest victim, was a school student visiting his cousin Harshal during a school break. Shelar and Ghume were involved in small-scale trading at weekly rural markets across Pune district.

“It’s unclear where the trio was heading that evening,” Deshmukh added. “But they had left around 7:30 pm, and the accident happened just over an hour later.”

Following a complaint filed by Prathmesh Shelar’s uncle, Vijay Shelar (48) of Talegaon Dhamdhere, Shikrapur police have registered a case against the PMPML bus driver under sections related to rash and negligent driving and causing death by negligence.
