Bibvewadi, 11th May 2025: A high-profile kidnapping case that created a stir in March has taken a dramatic turn, with the Bibvewadi police now officially declaring it fabricated. B Summary report — which indicates the case was false or based on a mistake of fact — was submitted to the court on Saturday, following a detailed investigation.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) Rajkumar Shinde, the alleged abduction of a 35-year-old diamond trader from Bibvewadi was orchestrated by the trader himself, with the help of his wife, to evade repayment of heavy debts.

“During the investigation, we found several inconsistencies in the couple’s statements,” DCP Shinde said. “The timeline of events they described simply didn’t add up. When questioned separately, their versions clashed significantly, raising further suspicion.”

The incident dates back to March 3, when the trader’s wife alerted the police control room, claiming she had received a ransom call from a Hindi-speaking man demanding ₹2 crore for her husband’s release. The call triggered a swift response from the police.

During the probe, investigators traced the diamond trader’s scooter to the Navle Bridge area. CCTV footage from the location revealed that he was riding alone — contradicting the claim that he had been abducted. Further checks revealed he had boarded a private bus bound for Mumbai shortly after abandoning his scooter.

“He was not kidnapped at all. He travelled to Mumbai of his own accord. Four days later, he returned to Pune and walked into the police station,” Shinde said.

As the investigation deepened, police discovered that the trader had taken loans totaling over ₹1 crore from at least six different businessmen. Unable to repay the amount, he and his wife allegedly conspired to fake the abduction to buy time and avoid pressure from lenders.

“This was a clear attempt to mislead the police and escape financial obligations. Based on the findings, we have submitted a B Summary report to the court, closing the case as a false one,” added Shinde.

No formal charges have been filed yet against the couple, but further legal action may follow depending on the court’s direction.
