Pune to Experience Continued Scorching Heat; No Relief Expected Until May 2

Pune, 28th April 2025: The sweltering heat in Pune is set to persist for the next several days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting day temperatures between 39°C and 43°C until May 2.
On Sunday, Lohgaon recorded the highest temperature in the state at 42.8°C, which was 4.1°C above the normal average for this time of year. Shivajinagar also saw a spike, with temperatures reaching 40.6°C, exceeding the usual average by 1.9°C. Pashan reported a temperature of 40.5°C, marking a return to high heat after a brief drop in temperatures. Other locations in the city, such as Lavale and Magarpatta, saw temperatures of 38.1°C and 39.8°C, respectively.
IMD officials have indicated that the city is likely to experience cloudy skies from April 30 to May 2, but this is not expected to bring any significant relief from the intense heat during the daytime. “The presence of a trough line over the state may lead to moisture incursion over Madhya Maharashtra, including Pune. As a result, there will be some cloud cover over the city on certain days in the coming week. However, this will not have much impact on the daytime temperatures, which will remain high. We can expect some relief in the evenings, but the overall heat intensity will persist,” said SD Sanap, a scientist with IMD Pune.
For the past two weeks, the city’s temperatures have consistently surpassed the 40°C mark, with Lohgaon regularly recording the highest figures. The intense heat has become particularly challenging in the morning hours, with numerous residents reporting heat-related illnesses such as dehydration, gastroenteritis, kidney stones, dizziness, and heat exhaustion.
Given the ongoing heatwave, IMD officials have urged residents to take necessary precautions when stepping outdoors. “It is essential to stay hydrated and avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak hours. People should be cautious while engaging in outdoor activities to prevent heat-induced health issues,” Sanap added.
As the heatwave continues, citizens are advised to remain vigilant and take all necessary steps to protect themselves from the extreme temperatures.
