Pune to get continuous moderate rainfall over the next week

Pune, August 12, 2020: Pune city is likely to get continuous moderate rainfall for the next eight to 10 days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Pune has forecasted moderate rainfall in the city over the next week. Pune has received 6mm of rainfall throughout the day on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the ghat and catchment areas in the district will continue to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall from August 12 to 14, followed by isolated heavy rainfall from August 15 to 18, IMD Pune has predicted. Pune district has been issued an Orange (Be Alert) warning till August 14.

“The westerly winds over the Arabian sea are getting moderately stronger, with a likely chance of formation of low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. This will trigger rainfall activity over Konkan-Goa and adjacent Central Maharashtra,” said Anupam Kashyapi, Head of Weather, IMD Pune.

Heavy rainfall has been predicted in isolated places in Konkan, Central Maharashtra and Vidarbha, with heavy winds on the coasts of Maharashtra and Goa.

Till today, the state has received 8 percent more rain than the normal this year. “The IMD extended range forecast has suggested that the state will continue to get good rainfall till August 27. Kharif crop prospect in the state has improved a lot,” said Kashyapi.
