Pune, 6th May 2021: The city and the state will experience the rains yet again for this entire week. Although the low-pressure belt formed over Western Vidharbha to Kerala has dissolved, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain over Konkan Goa, central Maharashtra, Vidarbha and Marathwada.
According to IMD, the month of May is called the pre-monsoon period and rain during this period is considered normal. Specific heat of soil is lower compared to water. The land is heated more than the adjacent seas. High pressure occurs over the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, the low-pressure area over the land region. This low is called ‘heat low’ and is very shallow in the vertical. This low-pressure area is different from that formed in the monsoon season. Lightning, thunderstorms, strong winds, hail storms are typical weather features this month.
